My step dad picked up a new Harley and I thought we would take it out and get some shots of it, the weather is starting to turn on us and our nice warm weather is coming to an end. As much automotive photography I have done this summer it is still sad to see come to an end, well at least until spring. I had wanted to get some shots in the garage and then head out on the street when the sun was setting, but due to a late arrival time I was under the gun a little bit to get some shots in quickly. Neat thing about motorcycles is there are so many different little nooks and crannies on them to see and photo etc. Down side to motorcycles is there are so many nooks and crannies to get shadows and reflective shots etc. So much chrome they reflect everything in front of them. It was a little harder to shoot then a car was I feel. Or could have been I was rushing to get out to get the sunset shots.
I swear the wind was not blowing this hard earlier, but soon as were out at my spot that wind was blowing in the 20-30 mph range. No chance of using my Soft box today. That thing would have taken off like a kite so I just used my beauty ring on my Alien Bee's AB400 (w/ Vagabond mini for power) and even with a 15lb sand bag on my stand I still had my Step father hold the light because the wind was just that strong. I shot quick because with the wind it was cold, and in my rush to beat the sun I also forgot to throw a heavier sweatshirt or heavier jacket on and I was freezing. Doesn't help that we had the whole time change thing going on a week or two before so I wasn't really sure when the sun was setting at my location since I hadn't shot there in a few months.
We got it done though and got some good shots in without major problems so all in all it was a good day.
I have a few more shoots I haven't blogged about and hope to get too soon so stay tuned.
